History of spirulina blue?

The FDA first approved Spirulina Extract as a food additive in 2013 for applications in gum and candy. In 2014, the list expanded to frosting, ice cream and frozen desserts, dessert coatings and toppings, beverage mixes and powders, yogurts, custards, puddings, cottage cheese, gelatin, breadcrumb, and ready-to-eat cereals (excluding extruded cereals.) In 2015, coatings in dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals were also approved and the applications just continue to grow.

What is phycocyanin good for?

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of phycocyanin can lessen the oxidative stress response of neurons, reduce inflammation and regulate immunity, and then alleviate the damage caused by brain diseases to a certain extent.

What is the difference between spirulina and phycocyanin?

Phycocyanin seems to be 6000 to 7000 times more active than spirulina itself and 20 times more potent than vitamin C. It favours the differentiation of stem cells and therefore promotes the production of transport and defence cells in the circulation in our body.

Why is blue spirulina so expensive?

It's a powerful antioxidant and is high in protein and other nutrients. So, when you purchase blue spirulina, it's much higher priced because you are actually only buying a small portion of the overall spirulina that was harvested. Additionally, the process itself of extracting phycocyanin is costly.
